Mr. Cebu 2009

Lights dimmed, navy ship flashed on the screen, screams broke the silence as men in snappy nautical uniform paraded on the stage to open the Mr. Cebu 2009 pageant.

The Pacific Grand Ballroom of Waterfront Lahug lit their spotlights and revealed the 15 candidates of Mr. Cebu 2009. Hunky, confident and determined Cebuanos walked pompously in their funky navy attire and braced the stage with one goal! “win and bring home the title of Mr. Cebu 2009″.

The pageant aims to celebrate the modern Cebuano, strong, reliable and independent. Mr. Cebu is also a celebration of Cebu’s culture and instill values to nurture role-models for the youth.

The Mr. Cebu event also showcased the creations of Cebu Fashion designers – Protacio, Peewee Sineneng, Wendell Quisido, Edwin Ao, William Manahan and Marichu Tan for the contestants formal wear. The formal wear was inspired by military uniform.

Kris Nimrod Cabigas bested the other 14 contestants with his stage presence and wit. Asked by judge Xian Lim for his inspiration on his route to Mr. Cebu. Teary-eyed, answered “My Father”. He said and I quote “My father is a simple man with a very simple dream and raised a very loving and proud son and by winning Mr. Cebu, I hope he will be proud of me”.

CebuCentral.Com had the opportunity to ask Mr. Cebu 2009 – Kris Nimrod Cabigas on his plans now that he is Mr. Cebu. He casually answered that he doesn’t have any plans yet since he just won. He wants to celebrate first and take the time off.

On what the title means to him: He said that it is very important to him since winning Mr. Cebu shows the true Cebuano which is humble, intelligent and will stand up for challenges.

Celebrities, Megan Young of ABS-CBN star and Anna Maris Igpit, Bb. Pilipinas-World `06, hosted the show. Actors Xian Lim and Carlo Guevarra were among the judges.

    CebuCentral.Com had the opportunity to watch the 4th DanceSport sa Sugbu & 3rd Cebu IDSF Open DanceSport Championship at Waterfront Lahug last Sept.26,2009.

    It was a three part program with a total of 92 events. The prestigious event was participated by extraordinary athletes from different parts of Asia like China, Singapore, Brunei, Hongkong, Bulgaria and Vietnam. Representatives from the Philippines were from Tacurong, General Santos, Cagayan and Cebu.

    Dancesports is a competitive ballroom dancing which is an exhibition of grace, agility and energy of different dance styles like the Waltz, Tango, Quickstep, Rumba and etc.

    Spectators watched participants in awe with their glamorous and glittering costumes during the Viennese waltz, their fierce and fiery energy during the Paso Doble and sexy execution during the dance of love, Rumba. You can feel the passion and dedication that they have for the sport as they glide across the dance floor. Just like any sports, it was evident that dancesports requires discipline, physical fitness, and rigorous training. The participants endurance and stamina was clearly demonstrated throughout the competition.

    One of the highlights of the night was the dance presentation of the kids as young as 6yrs old, who teaches dancesports for free to less fortunate kids in different barangays in Cebu.

    The crowd favorite, Ronie Steve Vergara & Charlea Lagaras (Philippines) No. 261 had brilliantly executed their number and bagged the Gold in the IDSF Latin category.
