“ILLUMINATED” an Earth Hour event

Sunday, March 28th, 2010

The incessant change of the climate has made aware of the impending danger it might cause.

The “Earth Hour”, an initiative, started in Australia, aims to address the issue where millions of homes turned their lights off for an hour, has become a global event being participated by over 35 countries worldwide.

The Cebu Shangri-La Mactan Resort and Spa and Cebu‘s A-list Events, PR & Advertising host’s the event called “ILLUMINATED”, an effort to be part of Earth Hour.

At exactly 8:30pm, the resort turned off and dimmed the light in public areas, restaurants, admin offices and hotel exteriors which commemorated the event.

Dressed in white, guests gathered at Shangri-La’s helipad and lit the sky with lanterns with the commitment to protecting the environment from the accelerating global climate change. Some wrote their wishes on the lantern with the hopes of increasing awareness on saving mother earth.

A slight incident stole everyone’s attention, where due to the strong winds, a lantern got trapped on a tree. The fire was, however, controlled immediately. Nevertheless, everything went well as planned.

Fire dancers flooded the event to entertain guests which includes: Mr. Bunny Pages, Teresing Mendezona, Arcy Gayatin, Philip Rodriguez, Cybil Gayatin of A-List Events, just to name a few. Ms. Korina Sanchez was also spotted in the area during the event.

This Cebu event hopes to create not just awareness to Cebuanos but to take action and be part of the change.

The ILLUMINATED ended with a cocktail at the Cowrie Cove.
