CCCI: Cebu Going Organic Launched

Thursday, October 6th, 2011

CCCI: CEBU GOING ORGANIC LAUNCHED

An initiative of promoting the organic agriculture in the province of Cebu has been finally realized when the Cebu Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) in partnership with the Department of Agriculture, Cebu Coalition for Food Security and AFOS Foundation converge to hold the first Cebu Going Organic (Cebu GO) Fair and Conference.

To be held on October 21 to 23, 2011 at the Cebu International Convention Center (CICC), this 3-day event will be a bigger leap especially in the implementation of sustainable farming system in Cebu as well as neighboring provinces. This event will also advocate a healthy lifestyle through organic approach.

Various targeted participants are expected to come and be part of this organic revolution. From the government sector as a regulatory body, to the local farmers who are expected to gain insights and knowledge about this niche, individuals from the academe, private organizations, associations and the media are also expected to mobilize and deliver this advocacy to a wider range of participants.

Inputs from the experts and the collective knowledge of the participants is expected to yield public awareness, an organic experience, creation of a certification body, supply chain and business viability and the advantage of nutrition benefits and food safety to the consumer market. This event also aims to create a holistic understanding of organic farming, the benefits, advantages and challenges through various multimedia presentations, introduction of appropriate and relevant technologies and the provision of access to market information. This will imperatively promote “The Organic Agriculture Act of 2010” otherwise known as the R.A. 10068.

If you belong to the producer sector like our local farmers, organic farmers’ cooperatives in Visayas and Mindanao, consumers, integrators, finance institutions, government agencies and other LGUs, chambers of commerce, NGOs and the like, this is your chance to be part of the Cebu Organic Movement.
