Stylish travel with Make Your Own Havaianas

Every fashionable jetsetter knows that staying stylish while in transit is just as important as getting to one’s destination. A big part of enjoying any trip, whether for leisure or work, has to do with making sure one looks and feels comfortable yet chic for any and every occasion. Comfort and style take the top spots when it comes to dressing appropriately for trips both local and abroad. One has to consider the country’s culture and climate – but it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to push your personal style aside for it.

Havaianas “Happy Soles Will Travel to Brazil” contest winner and fellow Cebuano, Farrah Lapinid, agrees. “I make sure that I am dressed appropriately for the weather,” says Farrah, “so before leaving for my destination of choice, I make sure I monitor the local temperature and pack my outfits accordingly. I check ahead what activities are in the travel itinerary, so I’d know how to dress for the beach, outdoor activities, museums, and restaurants. I also make sure that my clothes and footwear can be mixed and matched. Also, accessorizing is key! Finally, comfort comes first, so I make sure to dress practical yet stylish. Your choice of comfortable footwear can spell the difference in having the greatest fun on your trip. We wore Havaianas most days during our trip to Brazil and not only were they very comfortable, they were also very fashionable and everyone on the streets of Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro was happily wearing them!”

Havaianas puts the spotlight on making sure that one’s personal style is fun and fuss-free, letting stylish travel be as easy as slipping into your favorite pair of Havaianas. “Havaianas has the ‘Always Summer’ campaign for 2011. It’s all about celebrating the joy of summer and the fun, carefree vibe that it yields all year round. To strengthen our brand’s conviction, the 6th annual Make Your Own Havaianas brings people closer to the countries that celebrate style across the globe,” says Anne Gonzalez, Managing Director of Havaianas Philippines.

For this year’s Make Your Own Havaianas, the world’s favorite flip-flops brand highlights stylish personal travel. Havaianaticos are invited to customize their flip-flops inspired by the world’s fashion capitals. From July 28-31, beginning 10 a.m. at the North Wing Atrium, SM City Cebu, Havaianaticos and travel enthusiasts can personalize their very own Havaianas flip-flops by mixing and matching the colors of their soles and straps and then embellishing them with fun and unique pins. This year’s Make Your Own Havaianas offers travel-inspired designs on the MYOH Estampas soles (available in Top and Slim designs) and iconic pins from around the world which are sure to give Havaianaticos and travel buffs their very own trendy travel experience.

Road Revolution 2011

Thursday, June 16th, 2011

Photos by: Paolo Mañalac

The sun rose to the soft whirl of bike tires and long board wheels and the stomp of rubber soles upon asphalt. Runners, bikers and long boarders travel along Osmeña Boulevard as the dawn turned to a sunny morning. Congregating in front of the Cebu Provincial Capitol, the Road Revolution crowd awaits the Independence Day parade.

Giving way to the hodge-podge of people joining the Independence Day parade, the Road Revolution group took the left lane on its way downtown. Hundreds of runners, bikers and boarders ran parallel of the main parade. A prototype of a collective transport vehicle running on solar, wind and pedal power also plied the street.

Road Revolution is the people’s call to eradicate our slavery to fossil fuels and to push for a more sustainable lifestyle. Petitioning for a reform of the current road system, the group requests for existing roads to be divided longitudinally into four parts: 30% all-weather sidewalks and pathways, 30% bike lanes, 30% Filipino-made, non-pollutive collective transport system and 10% for greenbelts of edible gardens.

Ideally, this would allow the future generations to enjoy Cebu as it should be and not as it currently is. With pollution levels shooting up and climate change in evidence, strong laws and ordinances are needed to create a turn-around that our planet badly needs. With fingers crossed and hopes high, the people behind the Road Revolution – The Law of Nature Foundation, Philippine Earth Justice Center and 350.org Cebu – will see things through and will see the fruits of their labour in the coming years.

A symbolic turnover of the petition (with more than 20,000 signatures) was done in front of Fort San Pedro, the oldest triangular bastion fort in the Philippines. Cebu City Councilor Edu Rama represented the council. National Youth Council Representative Leon Flores and Department of Environment and Natural Resources Regional Executive Director Maximo Dichoso were in attendance. Atty. Antonio Oposa, Jr., Atty. Tara Rama and Mr. Vince Cinches (surrounded by hundreds of bikers, runners and the like) represented the signatories of the petition during the turnover.

The sun rose ever higher, peeking through clouds, as the day progressed while responsible and concerned Cebuanos take the revolution to the roads – a revolution on our day of independence.

Coffee Dream’s Bloggers’ Coffeeklatsch

Tuesday, June 14th, 2011

Coffee Dream Benedicto College branch, along A.S. Fortuna St., was packed with people from the mainstream blogging groups of Cebu.

After several minutes of introductions, chit-chat and enjoying coffee, the founder and president of Coffee Dream, Mr. Glenn Anthony Soco, took the floor, officially welcomed everybody and talked about Coffee Dream.

The first Coffee Dream was opened at the fourth level of Ayala Center Cebu in 1996. From there, they have expanded to 24 branches with several franchises all over the country. This year marks their 15th anniversary and they’re in the middle of re-branding Coffee Dream with a new logo and gradual re-designing of the interiors of their branches starting with those in Cebu.

As a home-grown company, they’re using local designers like Cham Lopez, Jaja Pareja and Kai Igot, for their re-branding. Also, Mr. Soco emphasized the fact that they are using locally produced coffee beans. He mentioned that Coffee Dream is using a combination of Robusta and Arabica coffee roasted to their company’s specification – medium-dark. From here, they aim to “purvey only the finest coffee to the local communities”.

Also, Coffee Dream has started food offerings. Coffee Dream’s menu offers all-day breakfast, sandwiches and pasta.

The re-branding of Coffee Dream will be seen as a good turn-around from the usual image of a regular coffee shop. Better service and a more personal experience would surely bring in more patrons for what is a great example of a home-grown Filipino company.

Special thanks to:

  • Anna Maris Igpit, Marketing Officer – Coffee Dream Co., for inviting CebuCentral.

Those who have less in wheels must have more in road. Headed by the Law of Nature Foundation, the movement calls for a change in the current transportation system of Cebu City.

On June 12, 2011, supporters of the campaign will gather along Osmeña Boulevard to encourage people to walk, run, bike, skate and stop depending on vehicles that run on non-renewable resources. On the said day, the group will turn over a petition with over 10,000 signatures to the Cebu City Government, to ask the council to draft an ordinance that will change the current design of the roads within Cebu City.

The ordinance will push for a road divided longitudinally into 4 parts: 30% for all-weather sidewalks and pathways, 30% for bicycle lanes, 30% for Filipino-made and non-pollutive transportation system and 10% for greenbelts of edible gardens.

On the same day, the group will unveil a collective transportation vehicle that will run on an electric motor that is charged by solar and wind power and a pedal-powered alternator.

The whole stretch of Osmeña Blvd. will be closed off during the event from 4AM to 8PM with major intersections opened, namely: M.J. Cuenco Ave., Colon St., N. Bacalso Ave. – P. del Rosario St. and Escario St.
