3rd Cebu Cancer Fair

A fun day fair for cancer patients & survivors is set during the 3rd Cebu Cancer Fair on November 13, 2005 at SM City Cebu Trade Hall. The Cebu Cancer Fair is a pilot project of the Cancer Care Network of Cebu Foundation, Inc. which is composed of doctors in Cebu and cancer survivors headed by DTI Provincial Director Nelia Navarro & Mary Ann Alcordo Solomon. The group plays an active role in cancer control policies & programs dissemination focusing on early detection and prevention.

The Cancer Care Network of Cebu Foundation, Inc., is an interdisciplinary coordinating body that integrates, develops, and oversees a systematic, dynamic, and sustainable cancer control policies to exert maximized efforts in developing an effective and integrated cancer control program for Cebu.

The 3rd Cebu Cancer Fair 2005 carries the theme “Celebrate Life “ was successfully held last October 2003 which was called the first Cebu Breast Cancer Fair. It was initially a breast cancer fair limited to breast cancer patients and their caregivers, wherein the fair proved to be a joyous occasion for everyone. Because of the success of the Breast Cancer Fair, the organizers decided to make the next fair, not exclusive for breast cancer patients but to other cancers patients as well. The objective of the event is to give the patients a day of fun in the midst of what is presumably a difficult situation. An event that would accentuate the positive and uplifting side of cancer with activities that allow closer relationship of cancer patients with other patients, their caregivers, doctors and friends

The Cebu Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Inc. as one of the Linkage and Resource Mobilization Committee members of CCNCFI strongly supports the Project & Programs. CCCI is calling its member companies to support & be a sponsor for the 3rd Cebu Cancer Fair. All cancer patients & survivors are encouraged to join the whole day activity. The activity will start with the holy mass & there will also be musical performances by Ms. Mitch Valdes, Jude Bacalso, Angelina Calina, Team Cebu Dancesport & Dream Girls. The famous artist/comedienne & director Ms. Bibeth Orteza, who is also a cancer survivor will give a talk on “Laughter as Medicine” & “Strength thru Support Groups”.

Cebu is most organized SEA Games host-Puentevella

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

Bacolod City Rep. Monico Puentevella extrolled Cebu as the most organized host, even as Cebu SEA Games Organizing Committee (CebuSOC) chairman Jonathan Guardo predicts Cebu will contribute 20 gold medals to the Philippine team, which is eyeing no less than the overall championship title in the 23rd editon of the biennial sports conclave.

Speaking during the grand and elaborate CebuSOC launching yesterday at the Capitol Social Hall, Puentevella said the preparations made by CebuSOC is way ahead of the preparations made by Metro Manila, which is the main hub of the multi-event conclave.

The were some Thai sports officials, who were in Cebu the other day, and they said they can already feel the spirit of the SEA Games here and also in Bacolod City but not yet in Manila,” said Puentevella.

The 2005 Southeast Asian Games

Thursday, October 20th, 2005

One major reason for the hosting of the 2005 Southeast Asian Games is the added boost the event can give the Cebu tourism industry and the opportunity to project an image as a perfect venue for investment aside from experiencing the biggest sporting spectacle to hit the country.

The SEA Games will be a good opportunity to boost Cebu as a perfect destination. With our hosting of at least six from out of the total 34 events to be contested in the Games, we expect about 1,200 official delegates from the ten-nation federation, not to mention their families and guests.

Nearly a thousand international media people from both print and broadcast will be in the country, and some of them will be covering Cebu’s hosting of the Games, to see for themselves that Cebu is a worthwhile and attractive destination whether for business or leisure.

This image will be projected in the living rooms of people and newspapers all over the world as video footage and pictures of the games, the venues and the surrounding locality are transmitted abroad.

Foreign guests will likewise have the opportunity to experience Cebuano culture, warmth and hospitality first-hand, hopefully leading them to spread the news back in their home countries through word of mouth.

More importantly, the Cebuano people will be treated to the biggest sporting event in this side of the world. For ten days or more, we will inculcate to the Cebuanos the spirit of teamwork, hardwork and the rewards that goes with them. Aside from being mere spectators, thousand of Cebuanos can directly participate by inciting the spirit of volunteerism.

It is also in sports where all public servants can show unity. For these and other reasons, the SEA Games is definitely a welcome event.
