The Cebu Chamber of Commerce Tourism Core Group, in cooperation with the Department of Tourism Region 7, Women-in-Travel, CBE-Industry-Academe Linkage, and the ACADEME will hold the first of a series of forums on the Culture of Tourism on October 4, 2005 from 1pm-5pm at the Eduardo Aboitiz Studies Center, Lopez Jaena St., Cebu City.

Tourism is everybody’s business. The concept of the Culture of Tourism is one major concern of the Department of Tourism. A goal oriented workshop is set to find out how the Culture of Tourism could be instilled in various sectors of the community. The following panelists who will give a talk on their perceptions of what Culture of Tourism is are: Dr. Enrique Grecia, CHED-7 Director who will speak for the Academe, Board Member Juan Bolo for the Government, Atty. Anastacio Muntuerto, Jr. for the Industry, Ms. Tess Chan for the Socio-Civic-Ngo’s. Meanwhile, Marriott Hotel General Manager Karl Hudson & CTTA President Cecille Saa will give a talk on behalf of the Services sector & Mr. George Parilla, Ambassador of Trade and Goodwill will speak for the Youth sector. The perspectives from these sectors serve as the framework for future action plans / commitment.

Culture of Tourism is attitudinal, value centered, and customer-friendly geared towards making the community the best place to live in & packaging Cebu as a very attractive destination. The goal is to get into value orientation which is the foundation of every dimension of Tourism that permeates, synergizes and binds every element from the grassroots to the top stakeholders. There is a need to develop the Culture of Tourism for this will bring positive effects such as business and investment acceleration, tourism arrivals increase especially now that the Tourism Core Group is vigorously promoting the development of Cebu’s tourism industry through the Cebu Plus Roadmap which aims to get 5 million tourists in 2010.

The upcoming forum is very vital because it is designed to enable the participants to identify properly the best way to sell Cebu to make it as the best place to live in. This is deemed to make Cebu globally competitive and capture the international market. The Culture of Tourism will enhance the best image of Cebu and cultivate Filipino identity and pride.
