Cebu in Focus - Kawasan FallsA cozy trek... A peaceful river.. A gentle hush of rushing ice cool water.. All this and more in Badian's Kawasan Falls!

Just 130 kilometers southwest of Cebu City and about three hours bus ride, the Kawasan Falls is located inside the mountains of Barangay Matutinao, Badian. From the entrance you will have to trek uphill for about thirty minutes, depending on your pace, to get to the first waterfall. Along the way, souvenir shops selling accessories such as beaded necklace, bracelets, and Kawasan print t-shirts are available for sale if you want to bring home souviners with you.

Kawasan has three waterfalls. The first one is mainly the largest of the three, and is usually the most crowded. An uphill climb for fifteen minutes will take you to the second falls, and another, to the third. You may bring in food, or buy from the resort's restaurants. Cottages and tables are also available for rent, as well as rooms for overnight stay. You may rent a raft to take you around the "pool" or for a refreshing "shower massage" under the falling water. Life vests are also available for a very affordable price.

The pathway may be very dark once the sun sets so its best to have a flashlight at hand. One should be extra careful in going down the slope especially those descending from the second or third falls to avoid mishaps or accidents.

Kawasan Falls is a popular get-away destination in the southern part of Cebu to locals and foreigners alike. With its lush tropical trees and plants everywhere, peaceful flow of the river as it gracefully rushes to the distant sea, the sound of the waterfalls on the background, friends and loved ones enjoying the cool and deep fresh water, everything around just seems so relaxed, simple and very serene.

Just nature as it should be.

Great Place to see natural beauty of nature...falls.
Prestine river runs, Massive limestone overhangs w/ native
trees, moss' on rocks, overall landscape is awe-inspiring.
Locals are nice and welcomed us. Great place to escape from
hectic city life....like New York Metropolis. I would recommed
this nice place to all visitors in Cebu.

The word 'kawasan' in Visayan actually means falls so if you say
Kawasan Falls, it is redundant. Just like when you say PIN number or ATM
machine. Well, just some enlightenment. I got this from my Philosophy professor
in college, the ever-energetic Boy Diluvio who is a native of Badian. Hello,
Sir and everyone in USC. I miss Cebu na jud, I'll be home soon.

Its an okay place, its a long walk from the parking area to the
falls, there are people to help you carry your things for a fee of course its
not special there are better waterfalls in the country, Maria Chistina, theres
one in Lunga which you have to ride a small boat to get to. And many others
Kawasan is far from the best.

I've been to kawasan many times already and all i can say is that is
a great place to unwind. let the cool water wash away your problems. by the
way, last time i checked, the kawasan entrance is only 10 pesos and the
overnight cottage is 500 pesos.

I'm from Cebu, Philippines. I've been going to kawasan since i was
in my elementary years. Though I've been there a lot of times already, every
trip to the falls i made always felt to me like its my first. I've always been
enchanted with natural land and water scape from the point i start walking on
the trail by the matutinao river up to the first, 2nd, and 3rd falls. The trip
alone is naturally kawasome (awesome), reaching the falls is a bonus you
recieved that tops everything beautiful you've seen and encounterd along the

Hi, am planning of exploring the beauty of Kawasan in April, can anyone
(i.e. moderator of this site)send me an email about cottage rates, entrance fee
per head, and food and drinks rate in there inhouse restaurant. I really need to
have a rough estimate as of the moment. I need to tag along friends from Manila,
I just want to make sure that before we'll finalize on our plan of visiting
Kawasan, we'll still be within our budget. Yah know, we need to be aware of that
also bec so as not to ruin our vacation extravaganza...
To Moderators of this site: I would really appreciate your feedback about this
endeavor, please send me an email. Thanks! More power to Cebu Central!

I went yesterday.. Its really nice, but maybe not for ever. The plastic
bags and things are envading, like much of the philippines. Business has taken
its grip at the falls, expect many people and not quiet, unless you go very early
or late. I have been to nicer place in philippines, but i wont say, because its
even nicer....come and explore for yourself.... I will give one clue.... its the
island called fire island..... and near cebu...

Really such a beautiful place to see. We went there last April 21, 2007.
We took a Ceres Bus Via Barili. The bus fare from Cebu to Badian costs 105
pesos. Before you reach the falls, u have to pay 10 pesos for the entrance fee.
You have to wear slippers so that it's easy for you to walk on some rocky paths.
When you reach the first falls, there are already small cottages worth 300 pesos.
For those rooms for overnight, it costs from 800 to 2000 depending on the number
of persons who will occupy then. You have to bring your own food because the food
there are very expensive. Even the softdrinks like the Litro Size Coke cost 45
pesos. Imagine twice the price. If you want to wear life vests, you have to pay
another 30 pesos. If you want to experience to go under the falls and have a
natural massage, you can ride on a bamboo raft that costs 300 pesos. Whew, so
expensive huh! but it's worth naman.
How i wish, i have a house in Badian so that anytime i could take a swim in it's
cool waters and have a refreshing and relaxing feeling. " So kamo dira, Tara na sa

Kawasan is a very beautiful place...I even have that naughty idea to jump directly to the stream when i already saw it...hahhaha!!!...But you rather go trekking around before you swim...the area is protected because of its diversity.....careful tingali kasab.an mo sa mga rangers....the only thing that i don't like in kawasan was the loud music in our cottage...grabe!!mura mi ug nangadto ug discohan...hmp!..I was expecting a very quiet place then and I was just disappointed...But my trip there was very memorable...i am going back there one of tehse days...

I was there with my friends last august 15. My bestfriend brought me there.. and it was amazing! There are 3 giant falls - like there's one in every level.. so you have to keep climbing which is thrilling and tiring but worth it! You just have to pay PhP10 and you can rent a room if you wanna stay overnight, which we did.. very cheap... you can also ask the caretaker of the place you're staying to cook for you if you're bringing raw food (from the market) at only Php50 per cooking. Great huh!

Kawasan Falls was indeed worth it! Our trip to Cebu was supposedly city tour, then we were informed that we were going to Badian! I knew it was too far from the city, but we didn't have much choice... when we started walking, we thought of nothing but tiredness... we did walk uphill! i didn't imagine how i was able to walk that far, considering we were on sleepers for we were ready for a water dip! gosh, up we go til we reached the 1st falls, but we didn't stop there, our guide brought us up... up to were the falls came from... after almost an hour hiking uphill we were amazed to see the water falls source! and i mean it, it was so amazing to see God's creation... the water so powerful just came from a hole of not more that 1 sq.m.?
You will be so thankful that you will witness the beauty of nature... amazing as it is, it was nature to the maximum!!!!
I might go back there someday... but this time i will definitely stay longer...
