Internet Birthday Party

Newest gimmick in Cebu: Internet Bday Party

When Philip Florido celebrated his 9th birthday recently, her mother arranged for an internet party, and boy, did he and his friends have fun.

What is an internet party? Instead of the usual restaurant or burger houses, a birthday party is held in an internet cafe. In the case of Philip’s mother, she visited Jungle Rose which is becoming known as the most beautiful internet cafe in Cebu.

Philip and his friends had an exclusive party set in the ambience of the first and only jungle-themed internet cafe in the world. A party menu was served, and the exquisite water fountain in the middle of Jungle Rose provided a lovely home to the “Happy Birthday Philip” banner. The girls surfed the net while the boys played internet games against each other. Because of the jungle ambience, Philip’s party gifts consisted of wild animal stuffed toys.

Since Philip’s father is in California, his father was able to share the joy and happiness of his son. How? Jungle Rose used its own digital camera to take 100 photos and uploaded it to a blogspot while the party was going on, with no additional cost.

There were a few problems though: The girls could not stop drinking the bottomless hot chocolate, and the boys wouldn’t want to go home. After all, with unlimited drinks, unlimited internet, superfast DSL, sexy LCD monitors, supercool aircons, and cozy jungle ambience, who would want to end the party?

Over 1,000 members of media to cover South East Asian Games

Wednesday, October 26th, 2005

When the 23rd Southeast Asian Games is held in the country in November, it won’t just be a gathering of thousands of athletes and officials but a jamboree of local and foreign mediamen as well.

The Philippine SEA Games Organizing Committee or Philsoc said it expects close to a thousand mediamen to cover the 11-nation event to be staged in different parts of the country Nov. 27-Dec. 5.

Based on requests for accreditation forms, Thailand alone is planning to send 300 mediamen while Indonesia is bringing in 120. Singapore plans to send close to a hundred.

The other countries competing in the SEA Games which is offering 441 gold medals in 41 sports are Malaysia, Vietnam, Brunei, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, new member East Timor and host Philippines.

The country’s major broadsheets, dozens of tabloids and a big number of radio and TV stations will all try to maximize their manpower during the Games. The same goes with the different media outfits in Cebu and Bacolod.

These mediamen will be scattered in the close to 40 different venues, including those in Metro Manila and nearby provinces, and southern cities Cebu and Bacolod. They will be billeted in hotels of their choice.

The bulk of the mediamen, however, will spend most of their time at the Philippine International Convention Center in Manila where the main press center for the SEA Games is housed.

Despite the fact that the foreigners will be armed to the teeth, from laptops to digital cameras, Philsoc is still planning to put up around 80 PCs (personal computers) at the main press center.

All these computers will have internet access and will be directly linked to the Games’ official website, now being loaded with articles and other information, from the history of the Games to past and present records.

The computer requirements should be ready by the middle of October or just in time for a couple of weeks of dry-run heading into the Games. The PICC also housed the main press center during the 1991 Manila SEA Games.
