Workdplace Population Management

The Cebu Chamber of Commerce & Industry in cooperation with the Employers Confederation of the Philippines (ECOP) will be holding a Regional Policy Dialogue on Workplace Population Management Program, with its theme: 3Ps (Policies & Programs on Population): Key to Greater Productivity. The dialogue will take place on December 15, 2005 from 8:30am to 3:00pm at Cebu Northwinds Hotel.

Visayan Chamber Presidents & Officers are expected to participate for the whole day affair. Dr. Corazon Raymundo, Advocacy Consultant of the University of the Philippines Population Institute (UPPI) will speak about Philippine Population and Development: Issues and Challenges. Workplace Oriented Reproductive Health Services and Knowledge will also be tackled by Ms. Grace Mateo of ECOP and Mr. J. Nomer Macalalad will discuss about understanding House Bill 3773. Meanwhile, the President of Talisay Chamber of Commerce & Industry Mr. Allan Bucao will be among the reactors during the interactive discussion.

Highlights of the discussion is the current state of Philippine population, need for a national population policy (articulating business support for House Bill 3773) and implementation of DOLE Welfare Program and other related issues. The other objectives of the dialogue is to promote the implementation of an effective population management particularly establishing or enhancing reproductive health programs in the workplace as compliance to existing workplace population-related policies and also to provide a venue to ventilate the employers’ views on pending bills on comprehensive policy on population management.

Investment Opportunities in Indonesia

The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Manila in cooperation with the Cebu Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Inc. will be holding a seminar on Trade & Investment Opportunities in Indonesia on December 9, 2005 (Friday) from 9:00am to 12:00 noon at Waterfront Cebu City Hotel, Celebes Function room. The seminar aims to introduce the Indonesian business climate and investment opportunities that could best promote mutually beneficial investments and other forms of cooperation between the business community of the two countries. It also intends to present the existing policies, regulations, requirements, trends and other information that are necessary in pursuing business interest in Indonesia.

Topics to be discussed are the following: Investment Opportunities in KAPET SASAMBA, Eastern Kalimantan Province, Indonesia; The Potentials in Increasing Indonesia and Philippine Investment Cooperation and the Indonesia-Philippine Business Prospects. There will also be a cultural presentation to showcase the cultural heritage of Indonesia and to promote its tourism.

The Philippines and Indonesia share a common vision of commitment to economic growth and development. Indonesia for its part is now trying to create an atmosphere conducive to achieve a level of growth to ensure development leading to employment and prosperity.
