A Tragedy or a Blessing?

Years ago in Scotland, the Clark family had a dream. Clark and his wife worked and saved, making plans for their nine children and themselves to travel to the United States. It had taken years, but they had finally saved enough money and had gotten passports and reservations for the whole family on a new liner to the United States.

The entire family was filled with anticipation and excitement about their new life. However, seven days before their departure, a dog bit the youngest son. The doctor sewed up the boy but hung a yellow sheet on the Clarks’ front door. Because of the possibility of rabies, they were being quarantined for fourteen days.

The family’s dreams were dashed. They would not be able to make the trip to America as they had planned. The father, filled with disappointment and anger, stomped to the dock to watch the ship leave - without the Clark family. The father shed tears of disappointment and cursed both his son and God for their misfortune.

Five days later, the tragic news spread throughout Scotland - the mighty Titanic had sunk. The unsinkable ship had sunk, taking hundreds of lives with it. The Clark family was to have been on that ship, but because a dog had bitten the son, they were left behind in Scotland.

When Mr. Clark heard the news, he hugged his son and thanked him for saving the family. He thanked God for saving their lives and turning what he had felt was a tragedy into a blessing.

Although we may not always understand, all things happen for a reason.

Mayor Tomas R. Osmeña is urging foreign and local businessmen to invest in Cebu amid the political turmoil that the country is experiencing today.

“Cebu is now the best place to make business in the Philippines. We have political and economic stability. The peace and order situation is relatively peaceful,’’ Osmeña said.

The Vice Mayor Michael Rama, Members of this Honorable Body…

As you know, we have been through a succession of crisis. But one of our priorities is to really focus on our local issues.

We will finally get the titles to the South Reclamation Project. We already have several serious offers from different locators. Much however remains to be done, we will be bidding out the electricity, water, telephones, interior roads. But we are now moving towards our goal. The goal that took the city 15 years to accomplish from its inception in 1989 to where we are today. The goal is to create 30,000 jobs or more and increasing the city’s assets by P15 billion pesos.

Monday, July 25, 2005

EVERY YEAR, WE MEET ON THIS DAY IN THIS GREAT HALL TO CELEBRATE DEMOCRACY AND TAKE STOCK OF THE NATION: THE COUNTRY AND ITS CONDITION; THE GOVERNMENT AND ITS PERFORMANCE; THE PEOPLE AND THEIR WELL-BEING.

OURS IS A COUNTRY DIVIDED; THE STORY OF OUR NATION IS A TALE OF TWO PHILIPPINES; ALMOST, AS IT WERE, TWO COUNTRIES UNDER THE SAME NAME.

ONE IS THE PHILIPPINES WHOSE ECONOMY, AFTER LONG YEARS OF CUMULATIVE NATIONAL ENDEAVOR, IS NOW POISED FOR TAKE OFF. THE OTHER IS THE PHILIPPINES WHOSE POLITICAL SYSTEM, AFTER EQUALLY LONG YEARS OF DEGENERATION, HAS BECOME A HINDRANCE TO PROGRESS.

Transcript of President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo statement on the issue of the tape recordings

Sunday, August 7th, 2005

Mga Minamahal kong Kababayan,

For the last several weeks, the issue of the tape recordings has spun out of control. Tonight, I want to set the record straight. You deserve an explanation; from me, because you are the people I was elected to serve.

As you recall, the election canvassing process was unnecessarily slow even after the election results were already in and the votes had been counted.

I was anxious to protect my votes and during that time had conversations with many people, including a Comelec official. My intent was not to influence the outcome of the election, and it did not. As I mentioned, the election had already been decided and the votes counted. And as you remember, the outcome had been predicted by every major public opinion poll, and adjudged free, fair and decisive by international election observers, and our own Namfrel.

Que Sera Sera

Sunday, August 7th, 2005

My friend was browsing the net and she came across this website
www.jobpredictor.com . She typed my name and it said that my ideal job is Anything except what I’m doing now. It struck a chord when she said it out loud. It got me thinking of where I am right now. Like most yuppie Cebuanos, Im currently a working zombie. Working late at night, talking to customers a thousand miles away and trying to manage a normal life. I wondered if it was something I wanted to do but then again I never really knew what I really wanted … what my real “calling” is.

I had this phase when I wanted to be a designer, a cook, a linguist, an entrepreneur and a singer <— teehee. But none of them I was able to pursue. I don’t know if it was because of sheer laziness, lack of drive or I just didn’t think I could do it. Or maybe where I am right now is where I should be but I beg to disagree. I believe that Im a searcher, searcher for anything that could make me express who I am … searcher for something that I could become. It’s gonna be a long journey but it would be a life enriching one. Que sera sera.

As for now, Im gonna be stuck here for a while….. Ok gotta go …..

Thank you for calling …. how can I help you???
