The outbound call center from Salt Lake City, Utah, which is currently operating in Mactan Island, Cebu fails to measure up to industry standards with regards to quality certification and operating standards. The company which is run mostly by Cebuanos has an organization that has failed to provide a management style which is egalitarian and prosperous. Western Wats (http:// www.westernwats.com/) does not speak for a modern westernized way of life or a corporate culture that is willing to promote growth and development. It may as well be the embodiment of all that is ugly about the call center industry and everything that is not sought after as an example among the numerous companies it neighbours at the Mactan Economic Zone in Basak, Lapulapu City. The corporation has a hierarchy that speaks of bureaucracy and egoism with a cutthroat presence that looks down with terror on every unwilling victim. No employee has not been looked down upon and has always had his toes trampled on unwillingly as if servitude was all that mattered as opposed to an empty life of special protests and an all-encompassing effort to impose strength without weakness. Many a fellow has fallen undeserving as prey to these conniving cohorts without being wary of the conspiracy that lurks within to choke the life out of you as if you were never aware. So we have Cebuano-Filipinos advocating a precept for a westernized consciousness which has miserably failed. Indeed, American English never was Filipino English. British English will always be British English. Filipinos will endlessly undergo the cycles of being intrinsically Asians, who, as is known to the whole world, are very capable of the different horrendous, adjudged war crimes committed by the despots of history. Mass murder, genocide, infanticide, torture, ethnic cleansing, every known systematic extermination process known to man has manifested itself from Asians. Cebuano-Filipinos are extremely rude, they have no concept of personal space, they demean each other, and are ill-bred. Western Wats Philippines has been no exception to this plague. Workers had better read the Communist Manifesto and internalize its principles to be able to weather the storms from every day spent as a call center agent. Customer service is non-existent, replaced by a mentality which is perverse and self-centered, not alone uneducated. Refinements are nowhere to be found, from the cleanliness of the workstations to the image projected by cheap computers interconnected in rows and blocks projecting a center that has not been well put up and representing a lower class planning reminiscent of shanties. The Wats, as they notoriously call it, is home to the unrighteous breed of upper-class sales level employees who ooze of triviality and unjustified aloofness. They will scream at you and make false claims as a daily dose of doing you ill. They occupy their time with unworthy pursuits that point the finger and lay the blame. Everything has no order, quiet is never present, and peace sadly abounds. WESTERN WATS IS A VERY LARGE ZERO.

    hello ….. i don’t agree that cebuano filipinos are rude and mean.i was a former employee at wats and i can guarantee to you that most of them,especially those who are in higher positions don’t originate from cebu…..we were not salespersons of any kind…however i do agree with you when you said that “The corporation has a hierarchy that speaks of bureaucracy and egoism with a cutthroat presence that looks down with terror on every unwilling victim.” that is 100% true.i resigned cause i could no longer tolerate the kind of treatment that i got . Our superiors were very unproffessional and they feel like they’re gods.Most of the veteran employees would let you feel that they are really that high and you have to respect them because you’re just new.Working at wats had always been a disaster to me and i don’t feel like going there anymore.I guess they don’t have to terminate a lot of people for there are more people resigning day by day.thanks for your blog…i hope this would inspire those who were being humiliated and disrespected by the demons to come out and share their side of story as well. but hey… let me clarify……my 100% percent respect goes to those sups who remain humble in spite of the position they got …..and a ” go to hell ” message to those who were not…..

    theres a lot of rumors that we heard about western wats. But the company is promising, they only required a 5 day training, who will not jump to its culprit and join their company? What is happening in Cebu last 2008 is happening too in davao agents. Yeah there were some of them that are too bossy, I think wats modify its employees the more you stay in their company. I dont know if its for the better, or maybe trun out the worse in you. Davao mass termination shock everyone, probabtionary is for 6 months but some of the terminated agents havnt reach 3 months yet,worst the new batch those who joined the company last Sept. They only stated operating last August, and the termination take place this Nov. What happend to 6 months probationary period? Some speculations was they were just using the agents during the peak of political season. Why too soon? Because you are unable to meet the company standards? or they dont have any projects anymore thats why they are treaming down agents. Well thats what you get, for those who were planning to apply better be ready. Their word is the rules. Imagine no late even for 1 minute, if youre late even you informed ahead of time that is consider AWON.

    I find Western Wats to be a realm of self-proclaimed and egoistic persons and managers(well most of them). Not just they are proud but so proud about theirselves and put their foot not on the ground but on their head.

    A taxi driver asked me, “Where are you working?”, and so I replied, “Western wats.”. Unexpectedly, the taxi driver said, “Ahh..the one that made watches and like other companies in MEPZII making machine parts, computers and so on and so forth?” To my dismay, I answered him back with a strong voice saying, ” Western Wats is the only market research firm under the call center industry here in Cebu City, Philippines.”

    In my opinion this is not proper for someone who is in customer relations. This is very unprofessional, how would a driver know about data collection firm? and did she really need to raise her voice?…well this only shows what Westrern wats is made of…out of know-them-all faggots.

    wats davao is propagating a culture of incompetence hiring “project managers” who do not even meet the minimum requirement set by “company standards”. would you ever get motivated to maintain tardiness knowing for a fact that the one supervising you was “promoted” after 3 absences and a failed QA within 2 months of probationary employment? plus, on her 1st week of deployment, she has been badmouthing the company, encouraging other agents to resign, and now she is rewarded with a position she never deserved.

    she must be so good because she can get away with “no pr, no meal stub” or when you ask to pee, she says “this will be your first and your last”. wonder how the department of labor would react if they knew about this? oh yes, this “manager” is great at screaming at agents who call her “inattention” about long waits.

    mass termination because the agents did not meet company standards? ha-ha. were evaluation tools ever objective or scientific? if you don’t kick asses of QAs and PM’s don’t ever expect to “meet company standards”.

    in fairness, i don’t want to believe the rumors that her promotion was facilitated by having been on the “screwed” list of “e” i still believe it that the bonding is because she is from cebu and they both worked for a similar company.

    anyway, i am resigning. good riddance to losers who continue to have illusions about what western wats is all about.

    hello there. I am a newly hired applicant last december 08. We were told to undergo training first quarter of 2009. I think it is because of the “EXTENSION ISSUE” of their building as we were told. It was just horrifying to know all these stuffs (inside hell). I also have friends who applied and got hired last October and December, STILL WAITING IN VAIN. it was like 3 months of HOPELESS WAITING for them. I was just wondering if would they still ACCEPT APPLICANTS given the “TERMINATION ISSUES”???…Who would love to wait this long???

  31. I love to observe and there are a lot of things Wats just dont understand. Guys when dialing its like your throwing your fish pole into the pacific ocean, even if your rod is the best of the best. It’s not the terminal to receive good calls or to get live respondents or get a lot of TAD’s guys. Its the thing we called unpredictive. Why? even computer cannot tell that the phone dialed well be answered and the other one on the line is available. I asked danny devito about that and he was telling me about the “learning curve”. Maybe he thought that I’m no good. I thought there would still be a chance in being with the company with the given hearing but I guess they would just wanna hear your part and never understand them. My plans were ruined because of termination but I guess I have to start all over again. Well guys, its not our loss its the companies. Even regular people get a product rate of zero not running 1 month pa, what more in the following months.

    Alright.. having read everything that has been written, i can therefore finally conclude that there is certainly a high degree of truth to the things that have been mentioned…

    I’ve been working for wats for roughly under a month and I for one can certainly attest to all of the concerns of former and present agents.

    First few days of work were exhilarating. One finally gets to sit and mingle with other agents (fortunately i was assigned in wire3) , who were very,very good at what they were doing. I even made it a point to learn something new from them everyday so that I can be as productive and as dexterous as they were. Fellow agents were and still are definitely approachable, helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.

    The pm’s, gwen and hunee, whom i have had the privilege of working with, were very accommodating and somehow motivating in their own way. They seemed to be two immiscible characters who surprisingly worked in sync despite their different managerial approaches and techniques. Although we cannot deny the fact that there will always be those days where PMS and other female hormone-related factors and what-not affect their general mood. But aside from that, they are most definitely alright in my book.

    The QA’s, v and j (i like to refer to them this way, hihihi..) are most definitely helpful. V is certainly one of my motivators for improvement. She compliments on personal and technical progress, and helps correct shortcomings and PnA errors. They are soft spoken and extremely helpful, ergo they are okay in my book as well.

    All in all, “wire” or current working environment has not fallen short of my expectations. However, the issue regarding the light work loads, the “LEAVE OPTIONS” (technically speaking,OPTION = CHOICE, in this case we have no f*cking choice. its f*cking required), and the matter of contract discrepancies that i just can’t wrap my finger around.

    My first day on the job was extremely disappointing to a certain degree because we were asked to have about 2 hour shift under time. This went on for days… They said the projects were light and the samples were terrible so i guess as newbies, naive as we were, we were bound to succumb to the companies technicalities. But as days went, undertimes became leaves which could last upto 5 days consecutively. I mean seriously, how can one possibly regain his momentum for working if he hasn’t been to work for FIVE DAYS STRAIGHT!!!!??? COME ON!!!! I tried to be patient… I tried to understand… so i waited and hung on… hoping that some ounce of good could finally come out of this… but gosh… LONG WAIT!!!! (hehe..) Eventually, personal perceptions regarding my work has changed drastically. I was not as excited as i was at work… my PR was drowning, i wasn’t having as much fun.. waking up was a tedious task… working and dialing was even worse. Then finally it came to a point where i hated going to work… All this happened within under a month’s time… Call me impatient or whatever, but this just didn’t seem right to me.

    My point is basically im not happy anymore. There is no sense of security and stability. It felt more like a part time job than a full time company association. It felt pointless and mediocre. I had no true sense of purpose. Despite the fact that a lot of agents were OKAY with this kind of seemingly temporary professional stature, hence the numerous regular agents still working for wats, i think this job, and this personal and professional indignation is not for me…

    WESTERN WATS DAVAO has not lived up to the expectations and extremely high numbers that they made for themselves. They have made false promises and had fellow agents and applicants believing their charade of sworn financial stability. I daresay, do not be fooled by the five digit salary or sugar coated promises of professional growth and assignation. These are nothing more than lures that will surely entice you and get you hooked at first glance.

    I will be submitting my immediate resignation this week. Call this experience a social experiment, an eye opener, a rude introduction to the ugly world of employment and business. But nevertheless, i am still grateful for the opportunity that wats gave me. I learned a lot… I earned some money… And I know now what NOT to look for in a job…

    To future applicants, hope this helps… just learn to weigh out the pros and the cons…

    everything (hmm… i think…) they said about danny is OH SO TRUE!!! dude!!! u gotta learn how to smile!!!! you look like you’ve got a year-long tummy ache that’s just dying to come out… and don’t be so rude to your subordinates, after all, you were once a subordinate yourself… and if people or AGENTS have questions or concerns and u have no idea how to impart the knowledge that YOU DON’T HAVE, please don’t resort to arrogance and insolence… it just exemplifies you’re utter lack of common knowledge about your job.. thank you…

The position is Data processor, i dont know anything about wats before but now that i have read all this comments wheteher they be facts or fallacies, do i have to come to their office for the interview?it’ll bew my first job hopefully and i dont want my first to get ruined that easily. i know i can compete but will it be worth it?enlighten my mind guys……..thans

    These nasty blogs never happened in Cebu. This just goes to say that Davao agents in Wats are IDIOTS! That’s the problem in only having a handful of experience. In cebu, we have 57 call centers manned by great guys. You have had great guys I suppose, but you were hitting them below the belt I . We are going to monitor Wats agents from Davao going to Cebu and hit you from behind too. If that’s how you play your game. Just put it this way, Cebu is way better off than you guys. You agents from Wats Davao are bunch of lousy assholes!!!! Bad thing Danny wasn’t able to monitor what squatters area you guys came from!

    wats need a talented, articulate at the same time accurate agents at all times….. when you applied at wats they were measuring your capabilities and skills….. but if ever you have failed on that aspect when you were hired then they have the right to fire you. So what now! Wats gave me the chance to excel. Can u still remember the time that wats gave you a very relaxed environment with no dress codes? Wats really understood what a call center job means. It is perhaps the very low costing job in the U.S unlike here in the philippines we have considered this job as as an executive like job in which other companies do follow with sleeves on it and and tuxedos!!!! What the fuck!!!

    Indeed, Ronnie Silva. A fallacy of generalization it is to blog about Cebuano Filipinos being rude and ill-bred! I used to work with WATS Cebu being one of the pioneers for more than two years and it has greatly enhanced my ability to converse with the foreign language.

    To you, Not In Cebu, I agree for a close monitoring of Davao WATS agents coming to Cebu. They need to learn and refine themselves before they can join the Cebu team; else, they better stay in Davao.

    wats davao hve just resumed their training this year. how do i know? because i am among the lucky ones! i heard they have really high standards…so being one of their chosen few makes me feel really privileged. i have been reading the comments but then, i know i need to experience it first before i judge the company…good luck to me! my training’s next week so i am keeping my fingers crossed….if you guys wanna apply, the process is just really easy…just bring your resume, be interviewed, and you get the results! no dilly dallying..they give it to you straight out..had to admit i was a bit put off with the comments of the interviewer but i am gonna take it as a challenge…yeah! aja! :)

    I’ve been employed by this company for 2 years…I do love the shift schedule, the type of work given to me, the interactions with my co-workers, and the type of environment provided.
    Sometimes, we also face difficulties with the specific project given especially if the incidence is low. I understand that part. The only thing that i dont like about the company management is they dont seem to see that “scenario”. All they want their agents to do is to always crank up their individual PR…but how can you crank up your PR if they are letting you conduct projects that are not even productive? With my experience, I’ve been working with various teams and with my first year, well, all seemed to be fine… not until WISE has been implemented. I think implementing suc policy is not even fair. Why put the blame on the agents where in fact, all agents are aiming to get a complete? There are so many thing to consider on this: respondent, type of project, lenght of the survey, so on and so forth. But the thing here, they wont even try to consider some factor…
    I think doing research just like what i did before is all about luck. if you are the lucky person of the day, then you get the highest PR….
    And also,theyu dont even see the efforts made the promissing agents who worked hard just to make a clean survey.
    Western Wats is still the world’s largest Data collection group….in terms of mass termination.
