Capitol to help City in disaster response
CEBU, Philippines — The Cebu Provincial Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) will lend a helping hand to Cebu City in terms of emergency preparedness and response for Sinulog activities.
Niel Sanchez, PDRRMO head, said in an interview that the province will be in full support of the Cebu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMC).
He elaborated that this is despite emergency response for Sinulog being mainly the city’s responsibility.
“Gi-activate na man ang atong fast group emergency preparedness and response for the Sinulog deployment. Of course the main task group ani is the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office of which kita sa province, we are there to support them,” Sanchez said.
“Support in terms that we are also deploying or mobilizing the municipal risk reduction and management offices in certain staging areas and strategic points along the course,” he added.
As of this writing, at least 10 local government units have already agreed to deploy personnel from their respective municipal disaster risk reduction and management office (MDRRMO) for Sinulog.
Sanchez said they expect the support of 15 LGUs on the actual day.
Personnel from the PDRRMO will be stationed to the Cebu South Bus Terminal (CSBT) for the entire duration of the festival on January 17-19.
“Starting sa traslacion, then sa fluvial, then sa procession then sa full Mardi Gras na,” he said.
Sanchez explained that the place is nearer to the Cebu City Sports Complex where the grand showdown will take place which would enable responders to arrive to the venue quicker.
Aside from this, he also added that the CSBT has a relatively vast area making it conducive for the setting up of a treatment area should the need arise.
Aside from this, there will also be a command post in the PDRRM Office in the Capitol Compound as well as a staging area.
The resources to be deployed will include an ambulance team complete with a medical team, two fire trucks and rescue trucks.
As for the Devotee City, the supervision has been transferred from what used to be the Cebu Provincial Government to the Cebu City Government.
Nonetheless, the province will deploy personnel from the Provincial Health Office (PHO).
Sanchez also said that the PDRRMO will provide “shadow support” in the area in case the need for additional responders arise. GAN (FREEMAN)
