PNP to hire top lawyers in case vs Tom, Mary Ann
CEBU, Philippines — The Police Regional Office in Central Visayas (PRO-7) will be hiring the best and seasoned lawyers to handle the charges they will be filing against Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña and Cebu City Councilor Mary Ann Delos Santos following a checkpoint squabble last Sunday night.
“Mogamit mi mga gwapo na abogado, mogastos mi og mga dekalidad na abogado. We will. But as of now, I will not comment. On-going ang issue,” Police Brigadier General Debold Sinas, the director of PRO-7, said. (We will hire the best lawyers and we are willing to spend.)
To recall, Delos Santos’ convoy was flagged down in Barangay Kasambagan last Sunday night in a COMELEC checkpoint led by Police Major Chuck Barandog chief of the Cebu City Mobile Force Company (CMFC).
Based on previous reports, Barandog had to grab Delos Santos’ back up by the shoulder to stop him after he passed through the checkpoint.
Police Colonel Royina Garma, director of Cebu City Police Office, last Monday also presented to reporters a video of Cebu City Mayor Tomas Osmeña asking who was in charge.
Apparently, according to Barandog, he came 30 minutes after Delos Santos’ team were flagged down.
Garma maintained it is their job to conduct checkpoint and belied that they asked Delos Santos and Osmeña to alight from their vehicles.
“We addressed that to Regional Joint Security Coordinating Council (RJSCC), kay the one violated is a COMELEC rule. No comment sa ko ana. One thing is for sure, we will file a case,” he said.
He also expressed support to Garma, who said that she will not let any critic tarnish and malign the reputation of CCPO or the Philippine National Police.
“I support her and we are preparing our follow through during our assessment,” Sinas said. — MBG (FREEMAN)
