DON Bosco Technology Center (DBTC) defended the Boys Under-18 crown with a 1-0 win over a determined Abellana National School (ANS)-Pomeroy in the 19th Aboitiz Football Cup yesterday in the Cebu City Sports Center (CCSC).
John Clyde Vitualla hit the match’s only goal in the 48th minute. Vitualla was named MVP because of his game-winning performance. He also nabbed the Golden Boot award.
Vitualla’s teammate Joseph Kei Ceniza, who made a late save that prevented an equalizer, was named the division’s Best Goalkeeper. Pomeroy’s Tom Colina bagged the Best Midfielder plum, while Jyric Bincolero won the Best Defender award.
Two other Don Bosco teams also logged wins yesterday. Don Bosco Boys Home (DBBH) won third place in the Boys Under-18 division with a 2-0 victory over Paref-Springdale.
DBTC also snagged third place honors in the Boys Under-15 division after beating ANS-Pomeroy, 2-0.
Meanwhile, Erco FC will face University of San Carlos (USC) in the much-anticipated Men’s Open division finals at 4 p.m. today, the last day of the 19th Aboitiz Football Cup. Erco FC has a slight disadvantage against USC as eight of its players also saw action for DBTC in the U18 finals. (EKA)
