ROLANDO “Daga” Pila and Wilma Fantonial ruled the 8th Victor Uy Caddies and Employees Memorial Golf Tournament played in the past two weeks at the par-72 Cebu Country Club.
This annual tournament organized by Jack Huang, cousin of Uy’s widow, Noni, immortalizes the love of Victor Uy for the caddies.
Pila, who is better known by his nickname, Daga, scattered four birdies during the round on the 6th, 8th, 11th, and 18th and had a lone bogey on the par-3 15th that gave him a round of three-under-par 69 strokes.
Using the System-36 format, Pila established a handicap of 1 stroke for a net score of 68 that earned him the men’s title.
Fantonial had a gross score of 92 and established a System-36 handicap of 20 for a net even-par 72 that earned her the women’s title beating Marianita Fuentes in the countback by virtue of a lower established handicap.
Nonila Uy said that her late husband was a regular fixture at Cebu Country Club during early mornings when he played with his group called the Sunrisers Club. (PR)
