CEBU, Philippines — There will be no special treatment for Bohol Provincial Board member Niño Rey Boniel once he will be detained at the Cebu Provincial Detention and Rehabilitation Center (CPDRC).
This was the assurance of Audesti Miguel, the acting jail warden of CPDRC.
Miguel said he has yet to receive the official order for the transfer of the government official.
Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre asked the Supreme Court to transfer the case of Boniel from the Regional Trial Court Branch 52 in Talibon, Bohol to a RTC Branch in Cebu city.
The request was approved by the Supreme Court en banc.
Boniel was tagged as the one responsible for the death of his wife, Bien Unido Mayor Gisela Bendong-Boniel. He is facing kidnapping and serious illegal detention charges.
Based on police investigation, Gisela’s body was thrown into the waters off the Punta Engaño in Lapu-Lapu City in June this year. Her body remains missing.
The court has not issued a commitment order yet but the CPDRC management is prepared once Boniel will be remanded to their facility.
Miguel said Boniel will be treated like a regular inmate and will be assigned to a regular cell.
CPDRC has more than 3,000 inmates and if his transfer will push through, Boniel will be sharing his cell with at least 15 other inmates. (FREEMAN)
