CEBU, Philippines – One of the trusted aides of alleged drug lord Alvaro Barok was killed in a shootout during a drug operation in Danao City yesterday morning.
Police Chief Insp. Gerard Ace Pelare, chief of the Danao City Police Station, identified the fatality as Antonio Lopez, Jr., a resident of Barangay Looc where the operation took place.
“Connected ni siya kay Barok and, actually, identified siya as one sa mga sinaligang tawo ni Barok,” Pelare told The FREEMAN.
Pelare said it was Lopez who opened fire first when he realized the man buying the shabu was a policeman.
Cops who stood as backup immediately fired back at Lopez.
Lopez sustained three gunshot wounds to his chest, which killed him instantly.
Pelare said Lopez had disappeared for quite some time after Barok surrendered in June 2016.
“Bag-o ra gyod ni siya nibalik ngari sa Danao niya atong gipaconduct-an ug surveillance sa atong kapulisan ug nigawas nga namaligya siya ug shabu maong atong gibuhatan ug operation,” Pelare said.
Cops who took part in the operation recovered 11 packs of shabu worth an estimated P297,950 and a .38 pistol from Lopez. — /JMO (FREEMAN)
