Team sacks 16 enforcers who tested positive for illegal drugs

SIXTEEN traffic enforcers in Mandaue City were finally dismissed after testing positive of illegal drugs.

They had been advised to stop working, pending the result of their confirmatory test.

Glenn Antigua, chief for operations of the Traffic Enforcement Agency of Mandaue (Team), said that only six submitted the result of the confirmatory test.

“The others said they didn’t have money for the confirmatory test. Some showed up at the office, but the others never returned to the office,” he said in Cebuano.

Antigua said they decided to dismiss even the five enforcers whose confirmatory test result was negative because “they were frontliners of the City.”

“It will be difficult if they do something wrong because of their vice,” he said.

Team personnel underwent a surprise drug test early last month. They were given until May 26 to submit the result of their confirmatory test.

Mayor Luigi Quisumbing told job-order and casual employees, who tested positive, to either resign or submit themselves to a confirmatory test at their own expense.

Meanwhile, Antigua said the 29 applications for traffic enforcers have been forward to the Human Resource and Management Office so they can fill the vacant positions.
